See how David Krammer uses 3D printing and vacuum forming to make a custom chocolate mold. A fun, creative way to combine tech and treats using a desktop vacuum former.
Austrian developer and designer David Krammer loves making things with his 3D printer. Whether he’s crafting Batman masks for his cats or designing 3D printed pool slippers, his work is always full of surprise and humor. David’s inventive spirit shines through in every project and in this video, he showed how fun and versatile vacuum forming can be when paired with 3D printing.

Using his MY YARD FORMART S desktop vacuum former, David 3D printed a model of a hand giving a thumbs-up, then used it as the base for creating a custom chocolate mold. By heating a PET sheet and vacuum forming it over the 3D printed hand, he produced a detailed, food-safe mold ready to be filled with chocolate.
After the plastic cooled, David poured chocolate into the mold and let it set, resulting in a deliciously creative treat: a chocolate thumbs-up!

If you’re interested in making your own chocolate molds, PET is an ideal material. It’s strong enough to maintain the mold’s structure during the pouring and cooling process, yet flexible enough to allow easy removal of the chocolate without cracking or damaging the shape. This makes it a favorite among chocolatiers and makers who enjoy combining edible art with fabrication techniques like vacuum forming.
David’s project is a great example of how vacuum forming and 3D printing can be used together for fun, creative, and even tasty results. From food design to cosplay props, the possibilities are endless when these tools are combined.
