The introduction of desktop vacuum formers was great news for makers. Just like for 3D printers, various applications continue to appear. What kind of creative results can you achieve with a vacuum forming machine? Let’s take a look!

Create packaging

Making packaging is probably the most widely used application of vacuum forming. No matter what you buy, it often has plastic packaging on the outside. With MY YARD vacuum formers, it is very easy to make a mould for packaging. With a little skill, you can make a beautiful packaging shell that you can copy as often as you want. Desktop vacuum forming is perfect for producing small quantities of custom packaging.

Home decor and displays

With a vacuum former you can create custom displays for your favourite collectables or make other home decor items, like trays, lamps or other decorations. Unleash your creativity and give your home a personal touch thanks to vacuum forming!

Moulds for food or soap

You can quickly produce thin plastic shells with a MY YARD FORMART and these can also be used to make moulds. Thanks to the ease of desktop vacuum forming, you can quickly create moulds, test them and make improvements where necessary.

The object you use to make the mould can be 3D printed or made out of any hard material like clay, plaster, concrete. You can even use a potato to create your shape, as you can see in the image below. In this case, the moulds were used to make handmade soaps.

Copy objects

With a vacuum former, you can easily replicate the details of a model object or surface. Using this principle, you can copy any object that you want to duplicate, like a mask or a toy.

Once you have vacuum formed your mould, it can be reused as often as you want. Now you can replicate the object into a material of your choosing, e.g. silicone, plaster, cement, epoxy, etc.
